The Cacophony About Mahama's 24-Hour Economy Policy Idea Confirms Its Strong Potential For Success

The overwhelming disruptive noise and emotionally charged interlaced with the incoherent argument put forth by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's followers about the Mahama 24-hour economy policy demonstrate that the noble policy idea has far-reaching potential and significant advantages in resuscitating Ghana's ailing economy.

This cacophony also shows that no matter how desperate or how much media campaign propaganda is applied, the benefits of John Dramani Mahama's 24-hour economy policy (better called Mahama 24) cannot be discredited, dismissed, disapproved of, or invalidated.

The good people of Ghana have overwhelmingly endorsed it, period.

Since Mr. Mahama, the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2024 general election, announced the Mahama 24, the level of discussion has shifted from grassroots analysis to a more sophisticated interrogation, which is helping to refine it for better implementation.

This groundbreaking policy, Mahama 24, has garnered overpowering backing from the public, internationally and locally. It is particularly endorsed by passengers, market women and men, workers, students, graduates, and nongraduates, as well as various leading sectors and leaders of the economy, including businesses, governance experts, policy experts, esteemed economic leaders, labour federations, Ghana TUC, and both local and international economic analysts.

Unquestionably, only forward-thinking leaders like former President Mahama and his group of knowledgeable and experienced economic experts in the NDC can address Ghana's economic problems and hazards, which the New Patriotic Party caused.

Dreaming of such a realistic and nationally backed policy idea demands an experienced person with a genuine sense of patriotism and commitment to national duty to put forward a policy concept that conveys both the present and future aspirations of Ghanaians, particularly the youth.

Today, the Ghanaian economy is undoubtedly wobbling, with the value of the cedi sliding to its lowest point in time. Inflation is escalating rapidly, interest rates are skyrocketing, and the national debt is ballooning irrationally with no commensurate infrastructure expansion or development.

Children of today and the future are burdened with unending debt payments. As a result, depression and frustration are choking a greater majority of people, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren, on the streets, in schools, at home, and at workplaces, lorry stations, bus stops, et cetera.

The country's public institutions are being bastardised, deliberately weakened and manipulated, while generally, the public sector is struggling to cope with needless political interference.

The reputation of once working in the public sector is gone and the concept of local governance is now dead from the last seven years - decentralization is now recentralized.

In addition, Ghana's international reputation and credibility are fast deteriorating, contributing to international credit rating agencies such as Fitch, Moody's, and Standard & Poor's overwhelmingly downgrading the once esteemed West African country and the beacon of economic prospect and democracy to junk status.

Have you considered the impact of this junk tag on Ghana?

Indeed, Ghana's current economic situation is extremely worrying because these dishonest, state looting and property-grabbing New Patriotic Party (NPP) leaders and administration, which consistently lied their way into power, are pushing more and more people back below the poverty line.

The overly bloated government of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia's mafia squad have severely harmed Ghana's economic fortunes, potential, and destiny.

But there is hope to rebuild our dear country Ghana with resilience and determination and with visionary leadership like John Dramani Mahama in charge, whose economic fortune keys can address and reverse the Akufo-Addo and Buwumia's seven-year economic backwardness and misrule.

In a bold and resilient move, Mr. Mahama has already unveiled this 24-hour economy policy for implementation as just one of the many keys he holds to unlocking Ghana's economic fortunes and recovering the country's tattered image.

Let us all support the Mahama 24, an important national course to rebuild Ghana, for effective implementation and quick economic recovery.

2024 budget: Businesses eye potential tax reductions and favourable inflation policies

Results from Ghana’s 2024 pre-budget survey show businesses look forward to the budget considering initiatives that review certain tax policies and reduce inflation to lessen economic impacts.  The findings also call for the need to invest in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those relating to education, health, and economic prosperity to leave no one behind.  The pre-budget survey results were released by KPMG and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ghana.  The survey solicited views from businesses across several industries on the impact of existing policies on their businesses and provided key recommendations to the Government through the Ministry of Finance to be considered in the upcoming budget and subsequent budget cycles. The national budget remains a key policy document for the implementation of various policy reforms and other policy measures in the country. “We hope the insights from the survey will help the G...
